I can only imagine how many man-years (literaly) of time have been wasted by people around the world trying to get around this issue! Thanks you Roy and let's hope Samsung gets this figured out in a future release of Kies. I plugged the phone to the USB, the drivers loaded and the phone was recognized. I then started Kies, waited for it to load and ask me to connect the device. Now the good news, I tried Roy's suggestion about switching the USB mode from "PDA" (where it was at) to "Modem" and then back to "PDA". So today, with no small amount of trepidation, I allowed Kies to install and update - Guess what? You got it! The problem about the mtp device driver failing to load came back! Unfortunately, I am not sure which of the many things I tried finally dd the trick. After much struggle I finally got it to load and recognize the phone the first time I installed Kies. I have had a similar problem with my new Galaxy SIII (SGH-I747M).
